character. FULL NAME: Elena Elspeth Goyle AGE/BIRTHDAY: 16 GENDER: Female BIRTHPLACE: London, England BLOOD: Pure HOUSE/YEAR: Slytherin Sixth Year WAND: 11 inches, willow, hippogriff talon core BOGGART: The death of her brothers. PATRONUS: Lynx SPECIAL SKILLS: cooking and recipe-making, especially talented at charms QUIDDITCH?: Beater SEXUAL PREFERENCES: Straight
PERSONALITY: Despite her brother’s charming ways with both men and women, Elena has never been particularly talented in the boy department, perhaps because she has never been the most feminine of people. Growing up with only brothers and a rarely present mother, she much prefers sports to dresses, and let’s just say she isn’t the best in heels. This can be a bit upsetting to her at times, especially when she realizes her brother gets more boys than she does, and there have been many times when she has felt self-conscious and considered tossing the broom for a form-fitting gown, but she has yet to follow through.
Elena is, no doubt, a spoiled child. She has never wanted anything (material) that she couldn’t have. This has left her with a lack of understanding when it comes to people on the poorer end of the spectrum. She does not completely comprehend the idea of having to earn something rather than simply asking for it- as was shown by her low grades for her first year of schooling. She expected to get the marks without the effort, but she has managed to learn her lesson in that respect.
Elena is an ambitious young lady. She definitely has her goals set in life, and she is determined to reach them, even if she has to step on a few toes in the process. Despite her dislike for her parents, Elena has taken up their passion for food, and once out of Hogwarts has plans to open her own line of restaurants whose menus will be based upon healthy options (and has already written several possible recipes). She wants to prove to her parents and to herself that she can do anything she sets her mind to, and she fully intends to have a much larger, much more successful restaurant empire than her parents by the time she’s finished.
As is apparent by her secret wish to dominate her parents empire, the youngest of the Goyle clan keeps a great deal of things to herself. She tends to let things build up and build up until everything bursts out all at once, and generally on the least deserving of people. She is the sort of person who will give her trust once and only once- betray her and you’ve lost her for good.
On the other hand, keep her trust, and you’ve got a friend for life, one with connections, too. She’ll stand up for her friends, and she’ll fight both literally and figuratively for them. She is very supportive, despite having grown up with so little of it herself, and is perfectly willing to be a shoulder to cry on, so long as the sobbing doesn’t last through lunch.
Elena’s mother and father were brought together through an arranged marriage. Though both were less than enthusiastic about the arrangement, upon being forced to meet at a restaurant for dinner, they realized they had more in common than they had originally thought, particularly their love of fine cuisine.
After marrying in 2000, the couple opened their first restaurant, BG’s, which was to become a huge success. As word spread of the restaurant, whose owners had chosen to originally remain anonymous thanks to their lack of popularity, the eatery’s popularity grew along with its waiting list. It is now accessible only to the elite, all of whom must set plans a great deal in advance.
With their restaurant's success, the Goyles opened more restaurants in some of the most fashionable urban centers of the world: Paris, Milan, New York and Tokyo. With the certainty of a healthy inheritance as well as the profits from their restaurant business, the Goyles have been able to raise their family without financial strain.
Two years after marrying, Millicent gave birth to the first of the four children, Gregory. Sage followed a few years later.
HISTORY: Born November 12th, 2007, Quincy Goyle arrived fifteen minutes prior to his twin sister Elena. The newborns were almost immediately placed in the care of the family nanny as their parents kept themselves busy with the restaurant business.
Elena grew up with her family, save her siblings, at a distance. With the family’s wealth, she certainly never wanted for anything in the material sense, but she never experienced the lovey-dovey family moments, never became a ‘daddy’s girl’, or clung to her mother’s leg when she was in the room. She learned to rely on her older brothers for the missing support, Sage in particular.
Unlike her older brother, Elena was not blessed with a brilliant metabolism. With a love of food and cooking, she found herself eating constantly, and with little to no restrictions or parental guidance, Elena was overweight from a young age. It was not until she was in her first year at school and no longer sheltered from other people’s taunting that she realized it. Embarrassed and uncomfortable in her own skin, she began a rigorous weight-loss program, and she lowered herself down to a healthy, athletic form by her fourth year. It was not until her fifth year that Elena got her first boyfriend- and her first kiss. It ended up being nothing too serious, as are most fifteen-year-old relationships, but Elena still remembers that awkward moment and looks back on it happily.
Along with her first boyfriend came Elena’s OWLs. Though she did well with wandwork, she was not so lucky in Astronomy, Herbology, and History of Magic, hardly scratching by in the latter two and failing abysmally in the first. She is currently enrolled in Charms, her favorite subject, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Potions.
PHYSICAL: Having shed her pounds from her earlier years, Elena is now a very healthy, muscular girl. She has reached an attractive weight and stands at a fairly average height. She does, however, like her parents have a face that is on the chubbier side, something she can’t help despite her many efforts. She keeps her brown hair shoulder length with bangs that end just above her eyes, also brown. It is a rare sight to catch Elena in make-up (aside from chapstick), but when she does, she cleans up rather nicely.
other. Third person roleplaying Elena spent very little time in the library at Hogwarts. The girl had nothing against the students who set up camp there, but she, personally, had trouble focusing in a room full of people trying to talk quietly to their neighbors and failing so miserably with their whispers that may as well have been a shout, of dusty books, and, most notably, of the pathetic groans of students who knew that no matter how much cramming they attempted for their upcoming test, they were doomed.
Instead, Elena had taken to making her visits to the librarian's domain nothing more than mere quickies- track down the needed book and get out as fast as possible. Little did she know, however, that the library didn't take well to being used, and it had already begun plotting its revenge against the insensitive miss Goyle. Passing through the door, Elena was in mid-step when she suddenly felt herself being jerked back. The strap of her book bag had managed to get itself stuck on the handle, and with an embarrassingly loud yelp of surprise, Elena tumbled ungracefully to the ground.
If there was one thing Elena lost her composure over, it was being laughed at. She hated it, the feeling of being pointed at, stared at. It was nearly the entirety of her reasoning behind losing the weight she had since her first year: fear of ridicule. Sure, there was the whole personal health issue, but she felt certain she was more likely to die of embarrassment than she was of clogged arteries.
She tried to be optomistic- hoping nobody had seen, but she knew better as she lifted her gaze up from the floor to see who had witnessed the spectacle, praying there wasn’t a crowd of people about to burst into peals of laughter.
First Person roleplaying: I came up with an idea to make chicken a little healthier. A lot of people like to use breadcrumbs with their chicken. They bake or pan fry it, but I was thinking: rather than using breadcrumbs on their own, what if you took out half of the crumbs and replaced them with ground nuts? Almonds, maybe. Or cashews! That’s extra protein and less carbohydrates! And honestly, who doesn’t like almonds?
Then, of course, you could serve it with vegetables on the side. A side salad would be nice, or just some fresh greens. Chicken goes well with just about anything, so I suppose it could be one of those ‘choose your own side’ sort of things.
I think I’ll make it the next time I’m around a kitchen. Sage, you’ll taste it, won't you? You know you’re my favorite guinea pig!
Plot Ideas?: Well, if she’s on the quidditch team, there’s practices and team mates and that sort of thing. She’s also got a brother she’s very attached to, and I can imagine her having a few people she’s never forgiven for teasing her so much when she was younger.
